Crowdsource your naming project
Are you developing a name for your new product or company? How about using some help from the internet crowd.
The namethis.com site allows you to post your product information and crowdsource naming suggestions.
They have posted some interesting cases, such as:
- GreenKeeper.com – Web 2.0 Green Portal
- Shejuvenate – Womens lifestyle day event
- Metadate – Advertising Company Matching Data to Impressions
Other cases have used crowdsourcing through very interesting methods. Ian Ayres, the author of “Supercrunchers”, defined the book’s name by creating an Adwords campaign and analysing click-through rates. The folks at MarketingExperiments also published findings on some of their tests.
For even more sources of inspiration, here are some interesting naming sites:
- www.dotomator.com – Combining prefixes and suffixes for domain and Web2.0 names
- www.rhymer.com/naming.html – Uses various combinations to help create names
- suggest.name – A web2.0 interface for selecting names
- www.folksonomy.org/2006/10/7_tips_for_naming_your_startup/ – A good article with tips for the naming process
