Thoughtpile.org – another crowdsourcing innovation site

Crowdsourcing idea and innovation sites have been popping up everywhere. Dell has one, and so does Starbucks. Most of these sites allow customers and/or prospects to suggest new ideas to these companies – a direct connection to the innovation department.

Other companies went a step ahead – trying not to focus on the actual company and/or product but more humane issues, such as poverty or the environment.

Herman Miller did exactly this with its Thoughtpile.org site. This sites brings up a weekly issue were users can suggest and comment on. This week’s issue is:

What’s a green idea that could help the economy?

The best weekly idea gets a free Herman Miller chair. Nice.

I really liked the flash interface – trying to resemble a brainstorming user interface. It took a while to get around, but I did spend almost 10 minutes reading the issues, suggestions and comments.

I really enjoy companies trying to engage their customers and prospects through advertising where everybody wins. Thumbs up for Herman Miller!
